I believe that the written word is one of the most powerful tools we possess. Unfortunately some writing creates barriers which confuse and distance the reader. I’m always aiming to open up a subject by drawing my readers into the heart of the issue.
I am an author, journalist and copywriter. I like to write about gritty issues that affect people’s lives and how we find our way through problems.
I recognise the incredible power of creative writing to free up people of all ages to express feelings and opinions. This is why I’m passionate about running Creative Writing Workshops which allow participants to put aside all their worries about being ‘good at grammar and spelling’ and simply enjoy the pleasure of committing their ideas to paper or screen.
Subjects I’ve covered in my fiction and non-fiction include: mental health, social care, suicide prevention, sexuality and gender identity, homelessness and social exclusion.
I have a particular passion for issues which affect the lives of children in care and young people leaving care.
