Consultancy work

Some of the campaigns I have planned and implemented include:

  • For the National launch of the Time for Action training pack for Action on Elder Abuse. I also publicised many conferences and policy responses for this organisation.
  • I managed all promotional aspects of the Believe in Me Awards for the Who Cares? Trust and DFES (national awards for young people in care to recognise adults who had made a significant difference to their lives) which included working closely with 25 different local authorities, with government departments and with the Minister and several celebrities.
  • I have worked on various foster care recruitment campaigns including: NCH (now Action for Children) national recruitment campaign; DoH/Fostering Network campaign: Foster Care Fortnight (2000 and 2001) and the London Boroughs Fostering and Adoption Network.
  • I worked as a media consultant and temporary press officer for a conference run by the former Association of Community Health Councils, and managed publicity linked to the publication of an independent report on the future of CHCs.
  • A campaign for Child Safety Week 2006, for which I devised the themes and stories for different stages of the campaign, including putting together a questionnaire for school children on risk taking. I then acted as a media spokesperson for national TV and radio interviews.
  • For the Disability Rights Commission I worked on a range of proactive campaigns including aspects of the Special Educational Needs bill, legislation around taxis and outcomes of the organisation’s tribunal hearings.

Other pieces of communications advisory and consultancy work included:

  • CBeebies employed me to be an advisor and script consultant for their specially commissioned series of the Nuzzle and Scratch series about child safety
  • During the making of their adoption-drama Little Bird, Granada Television Drama Department employed me to advise the writer and producers on social work aspects of the script
  • For the DFES/Ufi myguide pilot (which aimed to make the internet accessible to disadvantaged group) I was the East Anglia pilot manager. I established a network of community organisations and a local steering and worked with them to test the product with local people.
  • I became maternity-cover project coordinator for Action for Children’s ARTiculation project. My role included bringing together social work and arts staff to devise and plan a programme of events, and finding funding and venues for performances. I worked with staff and young people, supporting them in a range of practical and emotional ways.
  • I provided teambuilding and priorities-planning consultancy for A National Voice, and worked with a staff member planning a major conference event.

What people are saying about my consultancy

Henrietta is a wonderful communicator who is able to share her extensive knowledge in an easily understandable way. She is succinct and will expand when asked which I continually find extremely helpful in research tasks. Her knowledge of fostering and adoption, and her willingness to share information and contacts is invaluable. Henrietta is a pleasure to work with. We have communicated via phone, email and face to face, and I have always found her to be pleasant, personable and easy to talk to. Her writing - both fiction and non fiction - is very informative, created and based on years of experience. I would highly recommend her to work as a consultant and to run informative sessions

Henrietta's creative input provided a fresh perspective for Child Safety Week. She came up with the idea of a questionnaire for children and did all the work around making this possible. She also delivered extra value during the day of the launch, giving around 20 interviews to television and local radio. As a result of her involvement our media coverage increased, despite the Week now being in its 13th year.'

Henrietta is full of ideas, unfailingly professional in all situations and responsive to different audiences. I have worked with her on a number of projects with vulnerable young people and she has shown the greatest integrity throughout and earned their trust in the process. She is very creative and writes extremely well to brief and on her own initiative.

Thank you very much for helping us on Saturday - we particularly appreciate the fact that you were able to step in at the last minute. We've received lots of positive feedback from the families who came along who were all delighted with how much they got out of the day. Also we've had some really great comments about how the children enjoyed the activities and of course the chance to talk about their thyroid.’ (Creative workshop fat conference for children with thyroid conditions)
